While it’s certainly no secret that having a carpet in your home can help to create a sense of style in any space in which they occupy, they can also cause some serious issues with your health if you fail to properly clean them on a regular basis. Additionally, you will also risk exposing friends and loved ones to the same health issues as well, thereby causing them to become sick as well.

Respiratory Issues

Failing to clean your carpet on a regular basis can eventually lead to the development of mold. With the creation of mold comes the risk of all sorts of various respiratory issues thanks in large part to the many types of bacteria and allergens that reside within the mold spores themselves. These can end up being inhaled by a human whenever they are airborne, which will then cause the respiratory issues to begin. As a result, the respiratory system in the body will become inflamed.

Asthma Attacks

Carpets that are both dirty and damp are considered to be one of the main causes of asthma attacks in homes. The reason for this is due to harmful microbes and organic compounds that enjoy environments that are more damp in nature. If a carpet is dirty, this will essentially provide these microbes with a place in which they can thrive, thereby increasing the likelihood that you or someone else will end up developing an asthma attack.

Allergies

Dirty carpets can also be the perfect environment for dust mites, thanks in large part to the overall presence of things such as fungi, dead skin cells, and other forms of bacteria. As a result, these can cause all sorts of allergies that can adversely affect an individual’s ability to perform even the simplest of activities throughout the day. Issues such as itching, sneezing, a stuffy nose, rashes on the skin, and other forms of discomfort can occur thanks to these allergies caused by mites, and even more disturbing is the fact that the mites can be either alive or dead in order for these to occur.

Mycotoxins

These are typically found in carpets that are not only dirty, but also carpets that contain plenty of mold as well. Unfortunately, mycotoxins are also responsible for causing all sorts of serious health issues, such as allergies, stomach infections, and lowered immune systems – all of which can be worsened if they aren’t treated as soon as possible. This makes it all the more important to ensure that you have your carpets cleaned and treated on a regular basis in order to prevent these types of issues from occurring.

These are only a select few of the many different ways in which a dirty carpet can negatively affect the health of you, your family, and your friends. Perhaps the best way to help counteract something like this is to ensure that you have your carpets treated and cleaned on a regular basis, as previously mentioned. Ideally, you will want to vacuum them once per week; however, you will want to consider increasing this to once per day in the event that your carpets receive a decent amount of foot traffic.

Additionally, you will also want to hire the services of a professional carpet cleaning company as well. In terms of how often this should be done, it depends on both the location of the carpet and exactly how much foot traffic it generally receives. Ideally, however, many carpets will need to be cleaned every six months, but others will only need it every two years.

Ensuring that you take the time to regularly clean the carpets in all areas of your home will help to keep the health of you and your family as great as it can be for years to come. Furthermore, it will also ensure that the interior style of your home also remains equally as fabulous as well. In the long run, however, your health, as well as the health of your loved ones, is what will remain the most important.
