6 Ways to Feel 100% in Your Swimsuit

For many people, there is little that brings about more fear and panic than the onset of swimsuit season. For a privileged few, they may be able to simply eat a little healthier or do a few extra reps at the gym to feel in perfect fighting shape for swimsuit season. Then there is the other 99.9999995% of us. But looking great in a swimsuit and feeling great in a swimsuit are actually two completely different things. You may shocked to know that many people can actually feel pretty okay in a swimsuit, even though they may not look all that great to others. No matter what body type you are, here are 6 ways to feel 100% in your swimsuit this summer.

1. Remember what truly matters.

When it comes to wearing a swimsuit one of the biggest fears for many people is the fear of the judgements of others. What’s important to remember, however, is that the opinions of total and complete strangers just don’t matter – even if they should happen to be so gauche as to express them. If you have a spouse, mate or partner that loves your body and family and friends that love you, that is all that matters. When you’re getting ready to walk out in public in what seems like an inordinately small strip of fabric, just take a deep breath and remind yourself of what really matters.

2. Remember that everyone else feels the same way.

While it may be hard to believe that a supermodel that graces the covers of the some of the most prestigious international magazines could ever feel awkward and uncomfortable in a swimsuit, it’s actually true. One thing to keep in mind is that no matter what someone looks like to you, they are probably every bit as insecure about their body as you are. In fact, here is a list of 23 things that almost every woman is insecure about. And men can be just as insecure about their bodies as women are.

3. Every little bit helps.

One of the very best things you can do for yourself is whatever it takes to give yourself confidence. Whether it’s shaving, tweezing, waxing, tanning or just having a great mani/ pedi, do whatever you need to do to feel good about yourself. While you may never feel 100% fantastic about your body, every small thing you do will give you just a little extra boost of confidence. And a little bit of confidence can go a long way towards helping you strut your stuff in a swimsuit. No matter what you look like in it.

4 Stay away from the mirror.

Here’s a question: how do you think you would feel about yourself if you had never seen yourself in a mirror or a photo? While mirrors can certainly be helpful in determining if your dress is stuck in your pantyhose or you have a stain on your tie, they can sometimes harm as much as they help. Sometimes, you will feel far more confident in how you look if you stop looking in the mirror and just imagine you look better than you actually think you do.

5. Buy a swimsuit that flatters your body type – in a size that actually fits.

The diet/ fitness/ beauty/ clothing industry has managed to instill in us an obsession with numbers on tags. In reality, however, people looking at you have no idea what the number is on the tag on your clothing. All they know is what is flattering and what is not. Don’t worry about the number on the tag, just find a swimsuit that actually fits that you feel about as good as you can in.

6. Eat healthy.

Feeling good in a swimsuit is more about feeling good about yourself than it is about how you actually look. While very few people will feel great (for long) in a swimsuit, Many people with glaringly imperfect bodies can still feel pretty okay about themselves. Eating healthy is one way of taking care of your body, and you will most likely feel much better about something that you work hard to take good care of. This doesn’t mean you need to starve yourself or go on a crash diet, it just means shopping a little more in the produce aisle and a little less in the frozen foods section or bakery.
