When it comes to planning a wedding, no one has an unlimited budget. No one. That means that everyone has to make some sacrifices somewhere or find some ways to cut corners. Unfortunately, one of the most tempting places to cut corners can sometimes be on a professional wedding photographer. After all, these days everyone has a high end digital camera right in their pockets, so why not let them use it? Well, there are many reasons this is not a good idea. Here are 5 reasons you want to invest in professional wedding photography.

Allows your guests to be guests

Yes, you will always have some snap-happy friends and family that take pictures of everything, but you want to let them take pictures of what they want to take, not of what is going to mean the most to you. Chances are good, you are not going to want 50 selfies of your cousin with all the groomsmen. Once again, your guests are there to have a good time and in most cases, that includes alcoholic beverages. While one would hope none of your guests would get completely sloppy drunk, most people have a hard enough time taking clear, non-blurry photos when they are stone cold sober. Get a few drinks in them and you might wonder just what they were trying to take a picture of.

Photographers know how to show you and your guests in their best light

Angles matter in photography. We’ve all had that photo taken by our aunt or nephew that makes us look like we are about 4 feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds. Yes, a picture is worth 1,000 words, but some of them are a downright horror story. There is a reason selfies have become so popular. Taking a selfie allows you to control just how you look in the photo and ensure horrid photos don’t get posted to social media. If you don’t liek a certain photo, you can just delete it. On your wedding day, however, you don’t have that option, so you want to put your memories in the hands of someone who knows how to shoot at all the right angles to show everyone looking their best. Hiring a professional photographer is not only one of the best things you can do for yourself, it is one of the kindest things you can do for your guests.

There are no do-overs

While some people may get married more than once in their lives, weddings themselves are a once-in-a-lifetime event. No two weddings are ever the same and they often tend to be filled with moments you will want to treasure forever. Relatives may attend that you will never see again and precious moments abound. You want to spend your day resting easy knowing that all of the most powerful moments will be captured in all their spectacular glory. Professional wedding photographers know when all the most powerful moments are going to happen and they are ready and waiting to capture every one of them.

Professional photographers know how to roll with the punches

No matter how carefully you plan your big day, there is always the chance the unexpected will occur. A freak rain storm on your outdoor wedding or a seagull dive-bombing your wedding party might put a damper on the event in some instances, but a great photographer can take lemons and make lemonade. You never know what “catastrophes” might become your best memories with the right photographs of the event.

Touch-ups and editing

While you may know plenty of people able to take a perfectly decent picture, where the real magic happens is in touch-ups and editing. Even the most professional photographers will generally spend several hours carefully editing the best photos to make them absolutely spectacular. While your guests may be perfectly happy to turn over all their photos, its unlikely they are going to want to take the time to retouch and edit them. Yes, there are plenty of free apps and programs you can use to edit your own photos, but it will most likely take you several hours and you still won’t come out with the kinds of results a professional photographer can get with professional editing tools.
